Due to advances in orthodontics, traditional braces are comfortable, easier to maintain, and more efficient at straightening teeth than in the past.
Traditional metal braces with wires and brackets are an effective method for straightening crooked or misaligned teeth in children and adults. Due to advances in orthodontics, traditional braces are comfortable, easier to maintain, and more efficient at straightening teeth than in the past. Traditional braces can be made of either a metal or tooth-colored material, depending on your cosmetic preference. The metal brackets are glued individually to each of your teeth and connected to a thin wire that puts pressure on your teeth and jawline. The wire is adjusted periodically as your teeth slowly move into the desired place. Lingual braces are similar to traditional braces, however, the brackets and wires are installed on the back of your teeth, thereby providing a nearly invisible and highly discreet option. With either type of traditional metal braces, you’ll need to avoid eating certain hard, crunchy, or sticky foods like caramel.
Invisalign clear braces are a comfortable and nearly invisible straightening option without the need for metal brackets or wires. One of the biggest patient benefits is that clear aligners can be removed for flossing, brushing, eating, or sports. Dr. Roloff is an Invisalign Diamond Plus provider, which means she is in the top 1% of accredited providers in the U.S. and Canada. The entire process can take as little as six months, although average treatment lasts about 12-18 months. This newer option is designed to address the unique needs of growing children, ages 6 to 10. Phase 1 or early interceptive treatment is done before all of your child’s permanent teeth have erupted, so they’ll have a mix of baby and permanent teeth. Early intervention can prevent alignment issues from worsening and also provides a solid foundation for permanent teeth to erupt. First aligners are ideal for simple to complex issues, including crowding, aesthetic alignment, tooth protrusion, and narrow dental arches. Since they’re removable, clear braces won’t interfere with brushing and flossing.
Invisalign Teen works the same way to straighten teeth as the regular protocol, except the aligners have built-in compliance indicators on the back. The series of blue dots slowly fade away over the two-week period when the aligners are worn properly. If your teen fails to wear their aligners as recommended, we’ll be able to tell on their next visit!
